Mr. McFarland's News

Arrival
I would like to pass along a few reminders about arrival in the morning. Supervision for our students does not begin until 8:00 each morning. We are noticing an increasing number of students being dropped off prior to 8:00. If you are in need of supervision before 8:00, we have information in the office about our Y-Care program. I also want to remind families about our drop-off lane procedures. When dropping off, please pull as far forward as possible so we can utilize as much curb space as possible. All students should be exiting out the right-hand side of the vehicle. We have cars coming through the middle lane so we do not want students exiting into traffic. We are going to open up the far left lane for cars to drop-off students if they need to exit out the left-hand side of the vehicle or if an adult needs to assist the child getting out of the vehicle. Students will need to wait at the crosswalk until an adult has indicated they may cross. This should help the traffic flow in the mornings while keeping our students safe by using the appropriate lanes. Thank you for your continued support of the safety of our students.

If you haven’t had the chance to complete the survey sent out last month in the blog, please take some time to do so. I am looking for community opinions on what we want our school to become. I have asked the exact same questions to all 368 of our students and will share a compiled list at the beginning of next school year. Here is the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6CTFRY2

Thanks for your help!

Scott McFarland

Thank You, Olive Garden!

Thank you, Olive Garden!

We would like to thank Olive Garden on 119th St. in Olathe for donating the entire meal for the teachers' dinner for Parent Teacher Conferences.  The renowned Italian restaurant provided lasagna, spaghetti, bread sticks, utensils and Olive Garden's famous salad for the staff. It was delicious!
Thank you to Victoria White for organizing and serving the teachers that delicious meal.

Muffins With Moms

Muffins With Moms

Our PTO had a delicious Community Event called Muffins With Moms last week.   Not only were there HUGE Hy-Vee muffins (some donated by Hy-Vee), but coffee, juice and milk.  Nearly 300 people shared in this special time with their children and almost $400 was made for our PTO!
We wanted to thank Starbucks for donating all of the coffee!
And thank you to our outstanding PTO parents, Tonya Sorrels, Angela Ward, Kingsada Kingsakounthong, Waylon and Victoria White for creating such a heart warming time for our moms and their Hound Dogs.

Jadon's Hope Foundation and Bug Run

Jaden's Hope Foundation and Bug Run

Jadon’s Hope Foundation strives to promote educational awareness and fund research efforts for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, the #1 genetic killer of infants under the age of two, while also providing support for families affected by terminal childhood diseases.
Jadon Burks; aka "The BUG" was diagnosed with the terminal disease Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) on his 2 month Birthday. The news was overwhelming (to say the least) and while Jadon’s parents, Tony and Kristin, felt hopeless they were surrounded by incredible people, given good information, and became a part of an amazing "SMA family". While they battle this disease daily they hope to help others facing this seemingly devastating diagnosis. Jadon’s Hope was formed to make an impact in the fight against SMA and to help families "Dance in the Rain".

Please see the Jadon’s Hope Foundation Bug Run Registration Forms that are attached to the City Watch. You may also click on the link to visit their website: http://jadonshope.org/
The Run will be held April 11, 2015 at 8:00 AM at Rolling Ridge Elementary School in Olathe.
